The room was dimly-lit, and the air inside was stuffy and stale. I ran towards the door after this giant of a man to stop him from locking me inside this hell-hole. Unfortunately, a protruding piece of timber caught the hem of my jacket stopping me sharply. I felt pain in my left lower ribs as the timber jabbed through the already torn jacket.
As I struggled to free myself, the door shut with a bang. I heard the man fumbling with the keys for a few seconds. In disbelief, his footsteps faded away slowly, a step at a time. I felt helpless. The windows were not easy to access. They were over 12 feet from the ground. Besides, they were reinforced with closely-knit 2-inch metal bars. Now I was trapped for who knows how long.
“I am cooked. Maybe I will meet my death here.” I thought. I tried screaming, but it was useless. The nearest house was about 5 kilometres away. I could only hear cars and other motorists hooting about 3 kilometres from where I was.
But there must be a way out.
